Vasip Şahin, Governor of Istanbul
Vasip Şahin was born in Bayburt in 1964. He finished his primary, secondary and high school education in Erzincan. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Istanbul University in 1985.
He began his career as a district governor candidate in Erzincan in June 1986. In 1987 he carried out professional studies and research activities for one year in United Kingdom. Afterwards he served as district governor in Küre / Kastamonu and in Pötürge / Malatya, as deputy governor in Muş, as district governor in Mudurnu / Bolu and Kızılcahamam / Ankara and as deputy governor in Düzce respectively.
In 2003 he served as legal counsellor in the Ministry of Interior and as head of department in the General Directorate of Civil Defence. Between September 2005 and August 2008 he served as Deputy General Director of Provincial Administration and beginning with August, 5th in 2008 as General Director of Provincial Administration. With the Council of Ministers Decree of May, 11th in 2010 with number 407 he became Governor of Düzce for two years between 2010 and 2012 and with the Council of Ministers Decree of August, 11st in 2012 with number 2012 / 3511 he became Governor of Malatya for two years between 2012 and 2014. With the Council of Ministers Decree of September, 9th in 2014 with number 2014 / 6780 he was assigned as Governor of Istanbul and began active duty on September, 25th in 2014.
Vasip Şahin is married with three children and speaks English.
