GOVERNOR ŞAHİN MEETS WITH CONSUL GENERALS AT AN IFTAR EVENTGovernor Vasip Şahin hosted an iftar event for the Consul Generals in İstanbul.
Consul Generals and Ministry of Foreign Affairs İstanbul Representative Kenan İpek were present at the event alongside Governor Şahin.
"It is an honor for us to have you in our beloved İstanbul, center of cultures and civilizations," said Governor Şahin, "The month of Ramadan, where tolerance, love and solidarity peak, creates a wholly different atmosphere in İstanbul. In that regard, I greet all of the distinguished Consul Generals gathered here, at this iftar event."
"We wanted to meet with you in the spirit of Ramadan that plants seeds of solidarity for our people sharing the same future throughout history. The joint culture we have created on this land has always been nourished by peace and tolerance. Different languages, religions and cultures have been transformed into a consciousness of a common life, where people accept each other as they are, regard differences as richness, and protect moral values and sensibilities." he added.
Governor Şahin went on saying, "Our civilization is a civilization of tolerance, which makes our life styles common, and instructs a deep respect towards faiths and differences. It is a civilization that demonstrates, throughout history, the importance of living together. Being the children of this civilization, the Muslims have always celebrated the Easters and Yom Kippurs of their Christian and Jewish neighbors, as our Christian and Jewish citizens have celebrated the religious days of their Muslim friends. Organizing iftar dinners for the Muslims is one of the pleasant traditions we have. Mutual respect is our common legacy on this land and we have to protect it."
He continued as follows: "For the Muslims, the holy Ramadan is a month of mercy in which solidarity, generosity, kindness and compassion become flesh. The spiritual atmosphere around iftar tables is a concrete indication of the diversity of our society and culture, and an affirmation of the understanding that regards the differences as richness. It is also a perfect example of our solidarity and mutual respect."
