ISTANBUL IS ONE OF THE BEST CITIES IN THE WORLD FOR STREET FOODAccording to an article in CNN International’s website, titled "World's 23 best cities for street food", Istanbul is named one of the best cities in the world for street food.
The street vendors, which could be come across with at the busy and vibrant streets of Istanbul, selling simit, mussel, kokoreç (lamb or goat intestines wrapped around seasoned offal) or dürüm (wrapped kebab), offer tasty, cheap and filling street food, both for the inhabitants of Istanbul and tourists. Whether you are rushing to somewhere at noon or coming from a night party, it is possible to find something to eat at the streets of Istanbul, at every hour and for every taste.
While Tailand’s capital Bangkok tops the list, in which metropolises like Sydney, Beijing, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Cairo, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Mumbai are also included, Istanbul takes the sixth place.
Besides Istanbul’s most recognisable street food, simit, which is defined as "a cross between a bagel and a pretzel", dürüm, lahmacun ("Turkish pizza") and Turkish ice cream "especially with pistachio" are also mentioned among the unique street food offered by this grand city where 15 million people live.
Local tastes like falafel from Cairo, crepe from Paris, tofu and sweet soymilk from Hong Kong, meloui from Marrakech, and biryani from Mumbai stand out in the list as well.
