ISTANBUL STATE OPERA & BALLET OPENS NEW SEASON Organized by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet, the "Opening Gala Concert" took place on 23 September, in which important opera works composed by Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Massenet, Wagner and Strauss were performed. On 12 October, the second "Gala Concert" of the 2017-18 season, co-organized with Zorlu PSM (Performance Art Center), will meet art lovers at Zorlu PSM at 20.00.


The orchestra conductor Serdar Yalçın and the experienced soloists Aylin Ateş, Murat Güney, Efe Kışlalı, Hüseyin Likos, Ayşe Sezerman and Nazlı Deniz Süren will present the repertory from operas of important composers such as Bizet, Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti and Bellini.

In the 2017-18 season, Evrim Demirel's "Ninatta", adapted from Ahmet Ümit's novel "Ninatta's Wristwatch", will be performed for the first time. Giuseppe Verdi's opera "Falstaff" adapted from William Shakespeare's play, and Händel's opera "Apollo and Daphne" will also meet the audience together with oratorios like Verdi's "Requiem", Rossini's "Stabat Mater", Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana"; ballets such as Minkus’ "Don Quixote", Çetin Işıköz's "Judith", and –as a child’s play– Mozart's "Magic Flute (The Dream of Tamino)".

Other works that attracted the audience in the past seasons and will continue be performed this season are as follows: "The Other World" (Selman Ada), "Faust" (C. Gounod), "The Rake's Progress" (Stravinsky), "Ernani" (Verdi) and "The Turn of the Screw" (B. Britten) operas; "La Belle Helene" (J.Offenbach) operetta; "Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker" ballets by Tchaikovsky; World Dance Day events; modern dance performances from the Modern Dance Ensemble such as "Jizel", "Travelogue", "Classical Moderns", "Human Rights Day", "City Forest", "Melting", "Nevruz", "World Poetry Day", "Fight Against Racism", "Baroque Concert and Güldestan"; child’s plays "Just a Concert " and "The Puppeteer"
