İSTİNYE-ÇUBUKLU FERRYBOAT TEST TRIPS STARTSİstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Şehir Hatları Inc. started the İstinye-Cubuklu intercity ferryboat test tours on Tuesday, March 21, in order to relieve traffic in the Istanbul Strait.
The İstinye-Çubuklu ferryboat line, which brought the Europe-Asia passage to 8 minutes, will relieve the traffic of Levent, Maslak, Sanayi Mahallesi and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge.
In the first stage, it will serve with two ferryboats and it is aimed to transport 1 million 700 thousand vehicles and 2,5 million passengers with 40 thousand trips per year. Thanks to the new line, 5,000 vehicles are planned to be pulled from the bridge traffic every day. It is estimated that while significant savings in time and fuel are achieved, there will also be a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.
The ferryboats named Aşiyan and Erguvan are designed for waveless and soft docking. While Aşiyan carries 65 cars and 250 passengers, Erguvan can carry 65 cars and 434 passengers.
The trips are made every 20 minutes in the morning hours and every 15 minutes in the evening when traffic is intense. The ferryboat rates are determined as 7TL for automobiles and 15TL for other vehicles.
8 thousand 600 vehicles and over 10,000 passengers have been carried in the first week of the İstinye-Çubuklu ferryboat line.
