VODAFONE ISTANBUL HALF MARATHON TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY, APRIL 8 Organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Sports Istanbul, the Vodafone Istanbul Half Marathon, which was included in the Gold Label Road Races category by the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) last year, will be held on Sunday, April 8 at 9:00 am., starting from the Yenikapı Meeting Area.

Last year, the 12th Vodafone Istanbul Half Marathon, was held in the Historical Peninsula with the participation of more than five thousand athletes. In the men’s category Tanzanian Ismail Juma came first with 1:00:09 and in women’s category Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich won the race with 1:06:19. Both in men’s and women’s, fastest times in Turkey were run in the half marathon. The prize-winning athletes in all categories were awarded a total of 250 thousand USD.

Run by the elite athletes with records in their minds in the years it was organized, the half marathon’s history dates back to 1987. Offering the opportunity to make the best of each runner with its flat track, it was run 7 times between 1987-1993 with the name Goldenhorn Half Marathon. It ended in 1994 before the 8th was held. In the first race in 1987, instead of money, a number of gifts were given to the athletes entering the rankings. The most noteworthy prize was the car given to the winner.

After 17 years, in 2010, 1500 athletes from 22 countries attended the 8th International Goldenhorn Half Marathon, which also became a member of AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) that year. Held under the name Goldenhorn Half Marathon until 2014, it was re-organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which is also the organizer of the Istanbul Marathon. A total of 3,796 Turkish and foreign athletes participated in the 2014 half marathon, which has also been re-named as the Vodafone İstanbul Half Marathon.

April 7 is the registration deadline for the athletes to participate in the 13th Vodafone Istanbul Half Marathon that will be held on April 8. Late registrations could be made on April 6-7, at the Half Marathon Fair in Bayrampasa Forum Istanbul.
