VOICES FROM WORLD AT THE 24th ISTANBUL JAZZ FESTIVAL

VOICES FROM WORLD AT THE 24th ISTANBUL JAZZ FESTIVAL Started on July 4 and organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the 24th Istanbul Jazz Festival continues to host leading names and new discoveries from the world of jazz with more than 200 musicians in 20 different venues around Istanbul.

The 24th Istanbul Jazz festival, which will end on July 20, offers a festival experience with more than 50 concerts at different venues. The festival programme covers a range of jazz, funk, world music, blues and rock performances, with highlights including the young star of vocal jazz Kandance Springs, masters Jacky Terrasson & Stephane Belmondo, one of the legendary names of European jazz Nik Bärtsch, and two delightful voices from Africa, Fatoumata Diawara and Hindi Zahra.

Istanbul Jazz Festival hosts two special projects this year. The first project, "Beyond the Memory" is an homage to the cult guitarist and composer of Flamenco, Paco de Lucia, by iconic musicians like Antonio Serrano, Carlos Benavent, Jose Mari, Nino Josele and Piraña with whom the artist had collaborated in different stages of his career. Farru and David de Jacoba will join the company with their dance moves and vocals.

Three names from Turkey who are all masters in their own fields are the precious ingredients of the tribute night exclusive to the 24th Istanbul Jazz Festival. Contributors from Turkey will include Levent Yüksel whose "Tuana", a famous remake of a Paco de Lucia’s "Palenque", is one of the exciting names of this night. Taksim Trio, which will be on stage to demonstrate the unusual harmony of clarinet, baghlama, qanun and Flamenco, and Cenk Erdoğan, a rare maestro of fretless guitar in Turkey are also among the guests of the project.

TRT (Turkish Radio and Television) Big Band, conducted by Kamil Özer, the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, will share the stage with Christian McBride, who is among the most prolific jazz musicians of his generation with more than 300 records, and American saxophonist Joshua Redman, widely known for his own band aside from his creative collaborations and regarded as one of most important jazz musicians ever. These sought after jazz geniuses, will join together with TRT Big Band for the first time at the 24th Istanbul Jazz Festival on this unmissable night.
